CHILDREN from Milford Haven were among those learning how to stay safe at home, online, and out and about, at the 21st annual Crucial Crew event.

Some 1,250 primary school children took part in the event, co-ordinated by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit and sponsored by South Hook LNG.

At Crucial Crew youngsters are presented with a number of dangerous or challenging situations - such as a school bus evacuation, road hazards, or house fire - and take part in role play exercises to learn how to deal with the situation.

Councillor Wynne Evans, Deputy Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, said the event was "an inventive way of teaching children about potential hazards and dangers", and thanked the various partners who help deliver the programme.

Taking part in this year’s event were the Ambulance Trust, Domestic Abuse Forum, Dyfed Powys Police, PCC Food Safety, Maritime Coastguard Agency, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Red Cross, PCC Road Safety, Royal National Lifeguard Institution, PCC School Transport and Western Power Distribution.

Mariam Dalziel, Public Relations Manager from South Hook LNG said: “Safety is the top priority at South Hook LNG Terminal, so we are delighted to be supporting the Crucial Crew event once again, giving our County’s children the opportunity to learn valuable safety lessons across a whole range of different situations.”

Each pupil taking part is given a goodie bag sponsored by South Hook LNG with items donated by participating agencies.

Crucial Crew is also sponsored by Powersafe and Simon Safety.
