THE people of Neyland paid their respects to those who died at a service at the Cenotaph on Sunday.

Mayor of Neyland, Cllr Simon Hancock, said the service was one of the largest seen in the town for many years.

"There was a particularly large contingent of soldiers from Brawdy," he said.

"We were highly appreciative of Sgt Jason Phillips of the Welsh Guards who was an excellent Parade Marshall."

Prayers were offered by the Rev Alan Chadwick and Milford Haven Town Band also performed. At the Cenotaph, ex-soldier and local artist Barry John MBE read the dedications and list of wreaths.

Among those in attendance were local county councillor Paul Miller, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Haverfordwest.

The Parade dispersed near the Athletic Club and refreshments were laid on by Brian Rothero and his team.

Cllr Stephen Joseph, deputy mayor of Milford Haven, was also at the service.

"It was nice to see the children so involved, carrying flags and coming out to support," he said.

"Ten years ago I don't think you would have seen that, but the centenary seems to have raised awareness, especially among younger people, which is very important.£
