PEOPLE are being asked for their views on a new draft of the council tax reduction scheme.

In 2013, the Welsh Government developed new arrangements to help vulnerable households pay their council tax, after the UK Government abolished council tax benefit and cut funding for replacement schemes.

As of April 2015, when the current system ends, all local authorities in Wales will have to have their own version of the reduction scheme in place.

Although the bulk of the policies in the scheme will be set by the Welsh Government, individual councils are free to decide on four elements.

These are: the backdating of benefit, extending benefit payments, the exclusion of war widow and war disablement pensions from calculations, and whether changes to social security benefits and income should be reviewed annually.

The closing date for responses is Monday, December 1.
