SIXTH formers at Milford Haven School are in need of a big pat on the back, after raising more than £6,100 for Children in Need.

A week of activities co-ordinated by students got off to a splash with a ‘big dip’ in the sea at Broad Haven, on November 7.

A bake sale in Milford Haven cooked up some extra cash, followed by two lunchtime rounds of ‘Mr and Mrs’ in the school hall, and a discos for younger pupils.

On Wednesday, sixth formers scored another win for their total, beating the teachers in a game of dodgeball, followed by a Stars in their Eyes concert.

Years seven to 11 also got to enjoy two ‘I’m a Celebrity’ events, and a ‘fancy dress Friday’ for sixth formers finished off the festivities.

Although not quite beating last year’s £8,600 total, this year’s event still raised a whopping £6,119.86.

“People in the community have been really generous, in a time that’s been quite tough for the local economy,” said librarian Julie Hudson.

Sixth form study supervisor Suzanne Jones said: “The students have a lovely positive attitude and are a joy to be around, their enthusiasm has been infectious.”

Headmaster Rod Francis said he had yet again been blown away by the students’ efforts.

“It’s just amazing, every year they pull together and do it all off their own backs,” he said.

“We’re just so proud of them, the effort they’ve put in, and the money they’ve raised despite being a smaller year group than last year.”

He also praised the staff who had been on hand to support the students through their week of fundraising.

Among them – and also taking the plunge in the ‘big dip’ - were head of sixth form Kath Dootson and Jayne White.
