A PENNAR man, who repeatedly punched and kicked a Hakin man, and later threw a bucket of dog urine over him, has the threat of jail hanging over him.

Appearing before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, Kofi Gidman, 19, of Stranraer Road admitted damaging the door of Stephen Press’s flat on July 13; and to two charges of assault on the same day.

The court heard Mr Press had, on July 12, been invited to a party in a flat upstairs from where he lived, “making himself scarce” after the atmosphere changed.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan said: “Almost as soon as he got into bed someone was banging on his door.”

Mr Press heard the door kicked open and was confronted by a group of people from the party shouting at him.

The main instigator was Gidman, who repeatedly punched Press, the court heard.

The group left after fears the police had been called.

After he returned from work that afternoon, Mr Press heard a knock on the door, opening it to see Gidman carrying a grey mop bucket full of dog urine, which he threw over Mr Press.

“I realised it was urine, it was all over my face and body; it smelt disgusting,” Mr Press said.

During police interview, Gidman said he thought Press had laughed at the party when he talked about an incident involving his sister.

“I put the door through in one kick, I booted it off,” said Gidman, adding: “I gave him an uppercut and punched him about six times in the face and then booted him.”

Describing the second incident, Gidman said: “I had a bucket and just went ‘woosh’.”

The court heard Gidman had been due to empty a mop bucket containing dog urine when he went to Mr Press’s door.

A probation report stated Gidman was subject to a 12 month community order imposed by Swansea Crown Court at the time of the offence Defending, Mark Layton said described the injuries were minor.

He added: “Mr Gidman went to the police station to admit his role, he hasn’t tried to minimise the offence.

“He was deeply upset about what he perceived to be a comment made by the person he assaulted.”

Gidman was jailed for 16 weeks, suspended for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £200 to Mr Press, together with costs of £85 and a Victim of Crime Surcharge of £80.
