JUNIOR nature-lovers will have a chance to learn more about local wildlife, thanks to a free programme being run by Dale Fort field centre.

Wildlife Watch is aimed at children aged between eight and 13, who are interested in finding out more about the natural world.

The first meeting will be on Valentine’s Day and love will be in the air.

As creatures prepare to start new families, they need places to make their homes - so it’s the perfect time to build bird boxes and insect hotels.

"We want to share our knowledge and enthusiasm with the next generation and being the only wildlife watch group in the area provides us with a great opportunity to do so," said a spokesman for Dale Fort.

"This is an exciting, safe and free way to explore the wildlife and the beautiful natural environment around us, and Dale Fort is an ideal location with a variety of habitats on our door step."

The group will meet on the second Saturday of every month, from 10am until noon, and members can also suggest ideas for future activities.

Adult supervision is necessary for all age ranges for the first session as we will be using hammers and nails.
