LOCAL hounds wanting to keep up-to-date with the headlines of the past can now log onto a new service.
Pembrokeshire Archives and Local Studies - Pembrokeshire County Council’s local history service - is issuing regular updates of the news of 100 years ago!
The past-times news service is the brainchild of Education and Outreach Archivist, David Llewellyn.
“We’ve started this weekly service because of the increasing interest in local history,” he said.
“All the news is taken from local newspapers of the time such as the West Wales Guardian and Western Telegraph, copies of which we have here in our archive.
“What’s amazing is how much news had not changed much over the decades.
“It’s full of accidents, near misses and the occasional tragedy - coupled with adverts for holiday trips to London!”
Based at Prendergast in Haverfordwest, the newspaper collection at the Pembrokeshire Archives and Local Studies centre dates back to 1844 and can be viewed by members of the public.
The centre’s digest of 100 year-old news will be issued every Tuesday on its Facebook page www.facebook.com/pembsarchive
