A PEMBROKESHIRE minister will be marking Valentine’s Day in dramatic style, when he bungee jumps off the Auckland Bridge, in New Zealand.

Rev Hugh-John Wilson, of Christ Church, Milford Haven, will hurtle 140 ft towards the water, in a bid to raise £1,000 for Pembrokeshire Scouting Support Fund and poverty relief charity Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship (PATCH).

“I am chaplain to Scouting in Pembrokeshire and all the family are involved in some form or another, and I have seen the hugely positive effect Scouting has on the boys and girls who are members,” said Rev Wilson.

“The money raised will support young people who might otherwise have been excluded because of family financial reasons.

“As for PATCH, co-ordinator Tracy Olin and her volunteers do such an amazing job – it’s love in action! I can't help but support what they do.”

Despite having peripheral neuropathy, which affects his mobility and balance, Rev Wilson is no stranger to adventure.

In 2011, he marked his 50th birthday by parachuting out of a plane to raise £2400 for the two charities.

“I do have a bit of history doing similar daft things,” he joked.

“Because of my condition I cannot do anything 'silly' that involves too much physical effort - dropping is easy.”

Joining him for the jump will be his sons David, 23, and Jonathan, 21.
