MILFORD Haven Junior Band has struck gold at its first competition of the season.

On Saturday, February 7, the band travelled to Burry Port Memorial Hall, where they performed Everybody Needs Somebody, The Rose, Toy Story, All Through the Night and African Funk.

As well as bagging the top prize, the 31-strong band were also awarded the WWBE Trevada Cup for the 'Most Promising Band'.

The younger section also claimed silver for their sterling efforts.

Musical director Bron Parratt said she was extremely proud of all the members.

"It was such an amazing experience and I still haven't stopped smiling," she said.

"We went on stage and played our best, when we came off stage I knew that it was a great performance and couldn't wait to get in for the results.

"This time last year 12 of us went up to Burry Port and came away with a silver award, I never in a million years imagined that only a year later 31 of us would be going up to the same competition, entering two bands and coming away with a gold and a silver award."

She added: "I would like to thank everyone involved in Milford Haven Town Band, parents, supporters, players, absolutely everyone who made this day possible."

Milford Haven Junior Town Band are always welcoming new players of any standard and rehearse at Hubberston Youth Centre 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday evenings.
