A HAKIN councillor is encouraging local parents – and parents-to-be – to have their say on plans for a new ‘super school’ when they go on display next week.

The designs for a new school merging Hakin and Hubberston primary school will be available to view at two drop-in sessions in Milford Haven, where visitors can ask questions and give feedback.

Approved by county councillors in July 2014, following cabinet approval in April, the plans form part of the 21st Century Schools Programme, which is supported by the Welsh Government.

Hakin ward councillor Mike Stoddart said it was important that anyone who wanted to have their say attended one of the drop-in sessions.

“I would encourage people to go along and make their views known,” said.

“There will be a further opportunity to speak up at the planning stage, but this is a chance for people to see the proposed layout and have an input if they want.”

Plans to merge the two schools have previously met with controversy, with parents expressing concern about the loss of ‘family ethos’ the amalgamation could bring.

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said: “The new school intends to provide a 21st century learning environment for three to 11-year-olds, bringing together Hakin Community Primary and Hubberston VC Primary.”

The plans will be on display at Hakin CP School on Wednesday, July 8, between 3.20pm and 6pm, and at Hubberston VC Primary School on Thursday, July 9, between 3.30pm and 6pm.

Following submission, the planning application will also be available to view on the county council’s website.
