ONE man and his dog will be setting off on an 186-mile trek around the Pembrokeshire Coast this Friday (July 10), in aid of the Paul Sartori Foundation.

Fifty-eight-year-old Idris Evans, from Steynton, will be joined by five-year-old Collie Fergie for the nine-day trip, walking around 20 miles each day.

Starting at Poppit Sands, near St Dogmaels, on Friday, the pair will trek around the county, passing through Newport, Solva, Broad Haven, Dale and Tenby, before finishing in Amroth on Sunday, July 18.

The refinery worker has already raised more than £2,000 thanks to donations from co-workers, family and friends, and cash boosts of £500 from RWE, and £200 from Port Engineering.

But, he hopes his efforts will draw in even more funds, and aims to raise £3,000 in total.

Asked why he wanted to help the Paul Sartori Foundation, Idris said: “I’ve seen the work they do over the years, and how they have helped so many people – including members of my family.

“The work they do, and the care they offer is second to none, so there was no hesitation in choosing them to benefit from the money I raise.”

The Paul Sartori Foundation is a ‘Hospice at Home’ charity providing hands-on care and equipment loan directly into the homes of people living with the later stages of a life-limiting illness.

Last year, it helped more than 600 people by delivering 17,000 hours of hands-on care, equipment loan, counselling, bereavement support, physiotherapy, specialist nurse advice and complimentary therapies.

The charity is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is completely free of charge.

Despite not having trained for his marathon adventure, Idris says he hopes his work on the farm, and at the refineries, will have kept him in good shape.

But, he said his four-legged friend would make sure he kept up the pace, adding: “I’ll probably get tired before her!”
