A FREE children's cookery school launched in Milford Haven last week, following sponsorship from Milford Fish Docks.

The support means that more than 70 children have been offered a place on a three hour workshop with Healthaspire during the school holidays.

The first session included 13 children aged between seven and 12 who made fish pie and sugar free muffins.

They learned about the importance of eating healthily and how adding fish to their diet can help give them a healthy heart and brain, along with many other benefits.

The workshop was hands on and each child took part in all stages of making the meal. Each participant shared the lunches that they created and had a goody bag containing recipe cards to take home.

Ellen Picton, nutritionist and founder of Healthaspire based at Milford Marina, said: “It was so lovely to see such enthusiasm from all of the children. Everyone got stuck in handling the fish and passed the knowledge quiz with flying colours. My favourite quote of the day had to be from seven year old Billy Othen who said ‘You are meant to eat fish three times a week, so today I had seconds and thirds which means I’ve done it in one day!’”

Alaric Churchill, Marina and Docks Manager at the Port of Milford Haven, commented: “We’re really pleased to be able sponsor Healthaspire’s cookery school. Fresh local fish offers lots of health benefits, as well as tasting delicious, and we’d like to encourage children to try the wide range of species available on our doorstep.”
