A SHOP manager in Milford Haven is feeling the breeze, after shaving his hair and beard off for charity.

Spar stores manager Richard Harries, 24, raised £500 for cancer support charity Macmillan by ‘braving the shave’ at work last week.

“I decided to take part in the Brave the Shave event because my own mother had cancer,” said Richard.

“I know that the support cancer sufferers and their families receive from Macmillan can be almost as important as the treatment itself.

“The support can literally be the difference between life and death.

“Unfortunately groups like Macmillan just don't have the resources to help everyone as much as they need.

“They rely on donations, so it was important to me to help in any way I could

“Having a bald head seems a small price to pay for helping this effort.”

Richard - who has previously had his legs waxed, and worn make-up to work to raise money for charity - also thanked store owner Chris Ward and his co-workers at Spar for their 'amazing support'.

Macmillan’s ‘brave the shave’ campaign asks fundraisers to ‘stand proudly alongside men and women with cancer whilst raising money so Macmillan Cancer Support can help people take control back from cancer’.

“We know that cancer can turn the world upside down and that’s especially true when it comes to appearance,” said the charity.

“Men and women with cancer go through hair loss and changes to their appearance that can affect everything from the way they look, to how they feel.

“So when they need someone to turn to, Macmillan is here.

“Right from the moment of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond, we’re here to give people the energy and inspiration to take back control of their life.”
