YOUNG people, the police, youth workers and members of the community have been working together to improve the garden at Neyland Youth Club before it re-opens in September.

Earlier this week, volunteers got stuck in cleaning a large patio area of weeds and painting the walls.

The display boards around the club were primed ready for a future art project, and the garden prepared for a delivery of top soil and bark chippings.

The Youth Forum - with support from youth workers Sarah King, Andrea Evans-Jenkins and Dayle Gibby - obtained funding from the Port Of Milford Haven, Neyland Town Council, Dyfed-Powys Police and Pembrokeshire Youth Bank.

Suzie Ross, Targeted Youth Team, and two young people from Milford Haven School Garden Club assisted with the makeover.

Support was also received from Debbie Mills Community Champion at Tesco Milford Haven, who supplied a workforce and refreshments for the two days, along with local PCSOs Leanne Nicholls, Beth Devonald and Paul Mayhew, who gave their time.

“When Sarah asked for help we jumped at the opportunity to get involved,” said PCSO Nicholls, who covers the Milford Haven rural area – which includes Neyland – with PCSO Mayhew.

“The weather was on our side and it was lovely to work together with the young people, youth workers, volunteers from Tesco and a local community councillor.

“It was a great team effort and the Youth Club grounds look much tidier as a result of everyone’s hard work.”

Pembrokeshire County Council supplied masonry paint, brushes, rollers and personal protective equipment.

Neyland Town Councillor Judith Wilson was on kitchen duties and her husband Jeff helped in the garden.

This is an ongoing project which will be continued by staff and club members when the new term starts in September.
