A TALENTED team of anonymous knitters and undercover crocheters brought an explosion of colour to the streets of Haverfordwest on Sunday (August 16).
The (wooly!) mammoth Yarnbombing event was the result of weeks of preparation, which saw knitting needles and crochet hooks in the county town clacking like never before.
Nothing was safe from the creative crew’s decorative efforts, with railings, bollards, trees, and shop fronts all getting a multicoloured makeover.
A spokeswoman for the group said: “Other towns have held Yarnbombing events, and we thought, why not? We’ll do it in Haverfordwest, and put a smile on people’s faces when they’re walking through the town.
“We were really lucky to be offered The Lab’s headquarters to use for our preparations, and they have been really helpful to us. I’d like to thank everyone who got involved. "We had contributions from some seriously talented crocheters and knitters. Some of the stuff was almost too pretty to put out! People were nearly in tears because it looked so nice.
“It goes to show that people in Haverfordwest do want to get involved with events in the town. The community always steps up and mucks in.”
Sadly, later that day, social media was buzzing with reports of damage to the woolly installations, but the group does not want this to detract from the event’s huge success.
“Ok, some pieces have been messed with, but we really don’t want to focus on that,” said the spokeswoman. “We just want to feel good about what we achieved and enjoy how much it has brightened up the town.”
