OWNERS of a seafood pub in Dale are celebrating after winning at the Food Awards Wales 2016 competition, in Cardiff.

The awards celebrate and reward the very best in Welsh food hospitality, recognising the superb efforts of restaurants, takeaways, gastro pubs, hotel, cafes and bistros, as well as shining the spotlight on local producers.

“It truly is an honour to win Best Seafood Establishment in Wales at the Food Awards, it was completely unexpected," said Sian Mathias, of the Griffin Inn.

"We have had the Griffin for six years now and to gain nationwide recognition for our seafood is fantastic, it is such an exciting achievement.

"Simon and I would like to thank our superb team for their dedication and hard work, and to Mark Gainfort, who we co-own the ‘Griffin Girl’ fishing boat with, who lands the freshest seafood for you to all enjoy, we would not be where we are today without them.”

The award ceremony also raised £1,235 for Make A Wish Foundation UK, a charity that grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
