A SHOP in Charles Street was completely blocked off to customers for several hours earlier this week, because of emergency repair work in the street.

Contractors are currently replacing the roots of 15 lamp posts, which have been found to be "severely corroded".

But a "misunderstanding" saw access to the Pembrokeshire Vapes e-cigarette shop - which recently moved to Charles Street from Milford Marina - blocked off for part of the day.

Owner Adam Edgerley said: "We did have a very noticeable drop in trade with the works going on, we even had a few people travel to our Haverfordwest store because they thought the Milford shop was closed."

Speaking on Tuesday, a spokesman for the county council said: "There was a misunderstanding earlier today outside the vape shop which the contractors wrongly believed to be closed, hence the problems with access.

"We are working with the local Chamber of Trade to ensure that the remaining work will be completed without any access issues to businesses in Charles Street.

"At the time of writing, ten have already been replaced leaving a further five to be attended too.

"Some of the remaining five will be worked on during the rest of this week."

Byron Jenkins, chairman of Milford Haven Business Circle, said; "We would like to thank our local councillor Stephen Joseph for coming straight down to Charles Street, and contacting Pembrokeshire County Council to attempt to resolve the issue.

"He is now working with them to limit the amount of disruption to all businesses that will be effected by this works.

"The shops that will be affected by the work are Spar, Post Office and Subway, Renatus hair salon, Robeston Cross nurseries, Ladbrokes, Anglers' Choice and the Motorworld Building."
