VISITORS to St Brides will have the chance to explore a unique orchard - not usually open to the public - on Sunday, October 16.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s (PCNPA) 'Apple Day' takes place between 11am and 3pm, and is a celebration of apples and autumn.

It promises to be a fun-filled day packed with apple-themed activities and events for the whole family including beekeeping and woodturning displays.

PCNPA ranger Haydn Garlick said: “People will be able to bring their own apples along to have them turned into delicious fresh juice – but they’ll need to bring some bottles or containers to take it away in too.

“There will also be a rare opportunity to have a guided tour of the authority’s heritage orchard, which is home to some traditional Victorian varieties of apple tree, as well as a pear tree and a mulberry tree.”

The heritage orchard at St Brides, not usually open to the public, is home to a several different types of apple tree including Adams Pearmain, Blenheim Orange, Newton Wonder, Quince and Gascoigne’s Scarlet.

There will be refreshments including burgers, cider, teas and coffees on offer, with entertainment in the way of music and folk dancing provided by local groups to add to the celebratory atmosphere.

Apple Day will take place in the orchard behind The Pump House.

There is no need to book and entry is free, but donations are welcome.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
