AN ANIMAL rescue centre is looking to raise £2,000, to help look after the record number of cats and kittens it has taken in this year.

"We have always been committed to the rescue and care of all animals, but cats contribute massively to the overall number of animals we help annually," said Mikey Lawlor, of Greenacres animal rescue.

"This year has seen a record number of cats and kittens needing our assistance and the ones needing medical help has risen too.

"This has highlighted that our facilities are in need of a revamp to be able to provide the service and care they deserve."

Greenacres is crowdfunding to raise £2,000, which will enable the centre to develop and improve isolation facilities for poorly cats and kittens, increase spaces for animals to recover after operations, and offer rehabilitation facilities to cats needing a bit of extra TLC.

It will also make it possible to provide better facilities for pregnant and nursing mums.

Greenacres also actively promotes responsible pet ownership with neutering and microchipping being standard practice for all cats that are under its care.

Around £350 has been raised so far, and any shortfall in funding will be made up through fundraising by its team of loyal volunteers, and online auctions.
