THE community of Milford Haven has been rocked by news that 12-year-old Tia Llewellyn has lost her short battle with cancer.

The lively Milford Haven School Year 7 student had recently been diagnosed with a rare but aggressive form of childhood cancer.

Hundreds of tributes have been paid on social media to the youngster, with many also changing their social media profile pictures to a gold ribbon, with the words: "Fly high beautiful Tia."

Laura Leigh Duncan wrote: "RIP beautiful Tia, you are with the angels now."

"Heaven has gained another beautiful angel," wrote Sian Rachel Peters.

In the days before her death, more than £11,000 was raised through donations from the public.

Her family had hoped to put the money towards specialist care for the youngster, whose condition had required her to be placed in an induced coma.

Sadly, complications including a chest infection and septicaemia meant Tia never woke up.

A Senior Certificate presentation evening due to be held at Milford Haven school tonight (Monday) has been postponed following Tia's death.

A statement issued by the school says: "It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tia Llewellyn after a short and tragic illness.

"As a mark of respect for Tia, her family and friends, tonight’s Senior Certificate Evening has been postponed until April.

"Let us all remember a delightful happy girl whose smile will always be in the hearts of everyone at Milford Haven School."

A minute's silence was also held by members of Milford Haven RFC before their game against Nantgaredig RFC on Saturday.

Tia's funeral is scheduled to take place at 11am on Thursday, December 22, at St Katharine and St Peter's Church, followed by interment at Milford Haven Cemetery.

Bright colours to be worn, only black trousers.

Tia's family have asked that no children attend the service, but are welcome to release coloured balloons at the Royal British Legion Club afterwards.

Floral tributes should be left at Hamilton Court by 9am on the morning of the funeral.

Everyone at the Milford Mercury and Western Telegraph has been incredibly saddened by the news, and pass on their sincere condolences to Tia's family.
