PLANS for four “floating hotel suites” have been submitted alongside the development of Milford Marina.

If approved, visitors to the marina could stay in one of four small timber structures “rather like log cabins or chalets” sitting on floating platforms/rectangular pontoons.

Port of Milford Haven proposals state that the design has been tailored to the “particular, and largely unique, situation offered by Milford Waterfront”.

A similar ‘floating hotel’ is can be found at Neyland Marina.

The application says that these plans, which people can comment on until January 4, 2017, are not directly related to the waterfront ‘masterplan’.

It is considered as a “pre-regeneration opportunity” for both Milford Waterfront and Milford Haven.

“The application proposals have been prepared against the backdrop of the increasing popularity and success of Milford Waterfront and the broadening market for ‘interesting’ vacation locations. They can also be considered as complimentary to the marina’s current offer,” adds the application.

It is hoped that the floating hotel suites will help increase footfall for local businesses and attract further economic growth as well as an additional source of income for the Port Authority.

The suites will be located to make the most of the evening sun, facing south west, and will be easily accessible from the existing quayside.

Pembrokeshire County Council's planning committee will discuss the application in the new year.
