DALE’S third-ever New Year’s Day Swim proved a great success, attracting some 50 people to brave the chilly waters for a dip.

The 11am event, organised by the village’s Griffin Inn, had a great turnout despite the cold weather, with the plucky swimmers enjoying a hot chocolate, and even a rum for those old enough, at the pub afterwards.

While numbers were less than the more celebrated events, such as Saunderfoot’s, organisers hope the event will continue to grow.

Simon Vickers from the Griffin said: “It was a very cold day and many braved the elements, even if it was a quick dip! The hot chocolate, rum and roaring fires at the Griffin afterwards were very welcoming... well done everyone!

“Around 50 people took part, which for Dale is quite good.

“This is our third year and it has grown each year. We're looking to make it into a bigger event next year after the success and turnout this year; maybe get some sponsors, and look at serving hot food on the beach front.”
