A LLANSTADWELL woman who spent two years in Rwanda helping disabled children has thanked a local group for their incredible support.

Joanna Doyne worked at the Ngwino Nawe school for children with special needs as a volunteer with the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) .

She recently wrote to Milford Haven Soroptimists International group, where her mum is a member, to update them on how the £700 they raised has helped children in the village.

"The money raised helped refurbish each classroom, provide storage to ensure resources can be taken care of, and provide resources to make lessons more interesting and fun, " said Joanna.

"This has a very motivating impact, not only on the children, but also on the lovely staff who get such a thrill that you have been their progress and that you care."

She also sent photos from a recent tour of the school, showing the new blackboards, cupboards, tables and chairs, beautifully made by young people with disabilities who work in a neighbouring district.

On Saturday, march 11, Soroptimists International Milford Haven are organising a walk to celebrate International Women's Day. Members are hoping to span the Cleddau Bridge, along with members of other women's organisations, at 11am.
