A PRIMARY pupil has earned £500 for her school, by writing a winning poem to the Prime Minister.

Eight-year-old Rebecca Llewellin, from Coastlands School in St Ishmaels, travelled to London recently, where she was treated to a tour of Parliament, and met triple Olympic gold medallist Andrew Triggs Hodge.

Rebecca's poem - written on the subject of 'the future we want' was part of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)'s Earth Hour competition.

The competition was open to youngsters from around the UK, who were invited to write a letter, poem or design a poster sharing their vision for the future.

Rebecca said: “I really enjoyed my visit to Westminster and the tour around the Houses of Parliament.

"I am so pleased to be a winner of this competition – my mum was so proud she cried!”

Coastlands headteacher Mr Evans said: "We're really proud of her achievement, which demonstrates the quality of work that pupils at our school produce."

Earth Hour's unique 'lights out' event celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

From 8.30pm on Saturday, March 25, people around the world will switch off for an hour, to raise awareness of climate change.

In 2016, a record-breaking 178 countries and some of world’s most famous buildings including Big Ben, Hong Kong’s skyline and the Sydney Harbour Bridge joined the global celebration.
