PLANS to build 33 affordable homes in Neyland have divided opinion, following fresh concerns about the potential loss of green space.
Pembrokeshire Housing Association (PHA) wants to demolish the former day centre, youth club and infants school on Charles Street, to make way for new housing.
An original proposal for 42 houses was withdrawn in June 2016, following concern from locals about the potential loss of nearby green space, known as Belle Vue field.
In a bid to protect the area as a playing field for local children, Neyland Town Council agreed to take ownership of the site.
PHA has now submitted fresh plans for 33 properties, comprising 8 flats, 22 semi-detached houses, and 3 bungalows, plus 57 car parking spaces, 33 cycle spaces, and 2 disability spaces.
Vehicular access would be via an existing road to the west of the Health Centre, with a further pedestrian footpath linking the site with Belle Vue Street.
The new plans would see 0.16 hectares of open land lost – which some residents think is still too much.
But others have said that more housing is desperately needed in Neyland, in particular for young people and families.
A public meeting will take place at the Athletic Club between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday, April 19.
Neyland Town Council will also hold a special meeting to discuss the development on Tuesday, May 9, at 7pm.
