FRIENDS of a hardworking health campaigner who died recently are planing a big clean up at Withybush Hospital next month.

In tribute to Ann Doran - previously Ann Harding - there is an appeal for volunteers to clean up the hospital grounds on Friday, June 2, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4, 10am-late.

David Williams, and wife Elaine, are hoping to set up Ann's Ground Force and give the site a facelift.

Ann married her partner of 15 years Christopher Doran on ward 4 last Bank Holiday Monday, just a week before she died.

The staff and care on ward 4 were excellent, going far and above their duty by helping with organising the marriage in six hours.

David said: "Ann was a staunch campaigner to return services to Withybush and prevent others being taken away.

"At personal expense and time, for many years, she attended every health board & CHC meeting, private meetings with Health Board Chief Exe & AM’s, demo’s, petition collecting and did extensive research.

"The extensive grounds outside the hospital have become overgrown and brambles/weeds need clearing, very long grass/thistles need cutting etc.

"I was planning to do this a little later but Withybush Hospital has an open recruitment day on June 10 and the outside appearance would not give good first impression to potential recruits when they are in short supply, so sorry for the short notice but please come along and help."

He added that some companies are donating free hire of strimmer’s along with other equipment and materials but anyone who can help with equipment such as petrol lawnmowers, petrol hedge trimmers, farmer/organisations with flail/gang mowers is asked to please get in touch.

Anyone who can spare a day (or even a few hours) please contact David Williams on 01646 695823 or 07475 713602, email: david@david.williams-knights.com.

If you can, bring thick gardening gloves, safety gear, rakes, garden tools, although some will be supplied.
