HAVERFORDWEST'S stamp collecting society has said goodbye to its long-standing secretary, after 37 years in the post.

With his 90th birthday soon to arrive, secretary of the town's philatelic society Norman Jones has decided it's time to retire.

He was recently presented with a gift from members in appreciation for all his hard work over the years.

The society's chairman, Erene Grieve from Milford Haven, will take over the role, and Martin Lewis from Newport will become the new chairman.

At its AGM following the presentation, it was agreed the society would change its name to Haverfordwest Stamp and Postcard Club, to reflect current interests.

A spokesman said: "Nationally there is an increased interest in postcards and many stamp collectors collect postcards too.

"The new programme will reflect the change with a varied list of activities including dealer nights, auctions, talks, display nights, youth events and information about major stamp and postcard events."

The club welcomes new members at any age or stage of collecting.

The next event is on Thursday, June 29, at 7pm at St Thomas Hall on St Thomas Green, Haverfordwest.

Malcolm Harrington from Swansea will be selling stamps, postcards and ephemera as well as albums and accessories.

There will also be a children's table at pocket money prices.
