MORE than 3,000 people enjoyed a day of family fun at Scolton Manor on Sunday, to celebrate the start of Pembrokeshire Fish Week.

The Western Telegraph’s first ever Big Day Out event saw the grounds of the historic house brought to life with magic, music and more.

Puppet shows, facepainting and fairground rides brought colour and fun, while performances on the Radio Pembrokeshire stage from Yes Lad and Vibe School of Dance had everyone clapping along.

Children made new friends thanks to Super Star parties and mascots, enjoyed pony rides with Marros Riding Centre, and said hello to a variety of furry and scaly animals with Edu Pets.

Milford Mercury:

Ali Turvey said her family enjoyed the whole day.

“My daughter was thrilled to bits at the variety of rides and events suitable for her, especially the pony ride!

“And I was so happy seeing her happy.

“Will definitely be coming again next year.”

Kylie O’Neill from Haverfordwest said: “Excellent day out for the kids!

“Lots to see and do, they especially enjoyed meeting the snakes and rabbits.

“It was really lovely to see so many people there too, Pembrokeshire needs more of these events, looking forward to next year.”

Head of media sales at the Western Telegraph, Mike Owen, said: “I’m so pleased with the turn-out from the public, the atmosphere was brilliant, and we were incredibly lucky with the weather.

“It was also a great opportunity for local businesses and organisations to show off the fantastic work they do.

“Thanks must go to Pembrokeshire County Council, Scolton Manor, Wynne Evans, Joanne Welch, and all the team at the Western Telegraph who helped out on the day.

“A special thanks also go to our sponsors Folly Farm and Pembrokeshire College, plus all of the exhibitors, and the Welsh Seafood Cluster.”

He added: “We’ve already had lots of interest in next year’s events, and have been keen to hear people’s feedback from the day so we can make 2018’s Big Day Out even bigger and even better by giving local families a fun and affordable day out.”

Milford Mercury:

Western Telegraph editor Steve Adams said: “The Big Day Our was a fantastic success, and we are so pleased to have played a role in helping launch this year’s Pembrokeshire Fish Week.

“Events such as this just go to show the community spirit that is so alive and well in our county.”
