TOP of most children's wish lists might be a new bike, a games console or the latest mobile phone. But for one Llangwm schoolboy, it was a slightly more unusual item . . .

Ten-year-old Dylan Allman has become the youngest station adopter in Wales after he agreed to look after the Pembrokshire request stop at Clarbeston Road.

Together with his father Chris, Dylan will be working closely with Arriva Trains Wales to ensure the station is looking its best.

“I am so excited to be adopting Clarbeston Road with my dad," said Cleddau Reach VC Primary school pupil Dylan.

"It’s a great station with two platforms and regular trains passing through so I hope people will be able to see how we are going to look after it, keep it clean and tidy, and make it a nice place for people when they are catching trains."

The station adoption scheme sees individuals and local groups partner up with Arriva Trains Wales to recognise their importance in the local community.

The father and son, who live in nearby Llangwm, say they travel regularly by train down to Tenby and across to Swansea with their bikes.

They learnt of the adoption scheme during one of their journeys and decided Clarbeston Road would be good as it is not too far from where they live, and they often pass through it on their journeys.

A member of the 1st Johnston Scout Group, Dylan is using his passion for the railway and his local area to help with his Scouting Community Impact Award and to raise awareness of the importance of ‘giving back’ to the local community.

Dylan and Chris hope to clear the bank and plant wildflowers in time for next spring to make the request stop an even more welcoming place to visit.

"It's brilliant to be working with Chris and Dylan and really nice to see a young person so passionate about the railway and local community," said Geraint Morgan, community affairs manager for Arriva Trains Wales.

"The adoption scheme helps us work closely with communities to help show the importance of the station in those areas and we're delighted Clarbeston Road has now been adopted."

You have to be 16 or over to adopt a station, however those younger are very welcome alongside a consenting adult.
