AN iconic Haverfordwest church has been shortlisted as one of Wales’ favourite churches or chapels.
Tabernacle Congregational Church has been named as one of the 50 most beautiful and historic churches and chapels in the National Churches Trust’s ‘Sacred Wales’ – ‘Cymru Sanctaidd’ competition.
Tabernacle’s Minister Rev Chris Gillham, said: “It is an honour for Tabernacle to be listed amongst Wales’ top fifty churches and chapels. We are grateful that our ancestors gave us such a beautiful, light building and are keen to maintain it as one of Haverfordwest’s jewels.
“We are proud that for nearly 250 years it has served the people of the town and are anxious to continue that proud tradition.”
The Chapel, on the bottom of Barn Street and City Road is open for worship every Sunday and there will be a special open day with CADW’s Open Building scheme on Saturday, September 23.
“We shall be pleased to welcome visitors, show them the beautiful interior of the building, let them hear the organ and tell them something of its history,” added Rev Gillham.
Visit sacredwales.org.uk before August 31 to vote for your favourite church or chapel. The winning church or chapel will be announced on September 28 and will receive a ‘Sacred Wales’ – ‘Cymru Sanctaidd’ trophy, together with a cheque for £500.
