TWO Milford Haven families whose lives have been changed by cancer are raising funds for a charity that helped them in their times of need.

Jackie Taylor and Sarah Jane Howlin have organised a night of live music at the Pill Social Centre, to raise money for Welsh children’s cancer charity LATCH.

Jackie’s son Nathan was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in August 2013, and spent a year travelling back and forth between Pembrokeshire and Cardiff for treatment.

He also underwent surgery in Birmingham.

“LATCH made it possible for me to be there with him,” said Jackie.

“They supported me in so many ways.

“I met many others in the same position while I was there too and it was almost like counselling as we all used to meet in the kitchen and talk while preparing our meals.

“Unless you have been through something like this I don't think you realise how desperately needed charities like this are.

“There is no other charity like LATCH, and although based in Cardiff they will help families throughout Wales.

“I know of many families in Milford who have benefited from their help, one being Sarah, who is helping me to put on the event this year.”

Sarah’s daughter Tia Llewellyn died in December, only weeks after being diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer.

Throughout Tia’s time in hospital, LATCH provided an apartment for Sarah, helping ease the pressure of the five-hour round trip from Pembrokeshire.

“Sadly Tia didn't win her courageous fight but she is never forgotten,” said Jackie.

Four acts will perform at the Pill on Saturday, September 9 - The Shooting Counters, Devils Answer, Anthony Picton and Milford Haven Town Band.

Tickets are £5, and available by calling Jackie on 07501 131215. The event starts at 7pm.

Every ticket will also be entered into a prize draw to win a break at Kiln Park.
