A CHEQUE for almost £15,000 will help Pembroke Town Council decide whether a Henry VII visitor centre would be suitable for the town.

The money has been awarded by Arwain Sir Benfro for a feasibility study into the proposed centre, with Pembrokeshire County Council backing the project with match-funding.

Leading the study will be Pembroke Town Council, who will aim to find out whether a visitor centre could help 'capitalise on Pembroke's prestigious history' and improve tourism and the local economy.

The project is a part of a wider strategy to 'harness the value of Henry VII story' and Pembroke being the source of the Tudor dynasty.

A spokesman for Planed, which administered the money through its LEADER programme, said: "Interest in the Tudor story is huge and international.

"A great deal of groundwork has already been done to gauge public support.

"Direct proof of the extraordinary level of interest in Henry VII can be gained from the amazing response of the appeal which raised over £22,000 towards the Henry VII statue, unveiled in June.

"The Henry VII Visitor Centre feasibility study is just one example of the great projects being supported in the county.

"PLANED, now celebrating its 30th year, has helped communities in Pembrokeshire to access over £25m worth of funding during that time."
