FIREFIGHTERS are warning about the dangers of mobile phone chargers bought from unofficial sources after dealing with several calls where they have overheated.

Milford Haven Fire Station have been called to deal with cases of mobile phone chargers getting too hot and overloading, and have warned the public to buy them from the original manufacturers, not cheaply from markets.

Fortunately no one has been hurt in any of the incidents Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue have attended, but in other parts of the UK fires caused by overheated phone chargers have been fatal.

Some fire services have recommended not leaving phones to charge unattended over night.

Station Manager Will Bowen, Home Fire Safety Manager said: “Buying fake electrical products is particularly risky as they often contain faulty parts that can overheat and catch fire or deliver a fatal electric shock.

“Although cost is a major factor when people choose to buy a fake product, if a bargain looks too good to be true, the chances are it probably is!

“When purchasing electrical items you should always ‘shop smart’ and buy from reputable retailer in order to avoid being fooled by a fake. Always ensure that any electrical item you buy has a CE mark on it.”
