MILFORD Haven Fire Station threw a party full of ghostly goings-on this Halloween with storytelling, dancing and a haunted house as well as an important safety message.

The Halloween Spooktacular party at Milford Haven Fire Station on Tuesday, October 31, gave local children the chance to let loose at a disco in the main fire engine garage.

There was also a haunted house with several firefighters dressed up in scary costumes, and the kids who made it all the way through were given a bag of sweets for their bravery in the face of fear.

Watch Manager Stewart McDonald read from Halloween-themed Fireman Sam stories at the spooky story time corner, and fire fighter Jamie Herbert dressed up as a “zombie survivor” by wearing a hazmat suit to scare the young guests.

There were between 300 and 400 people at the party, which came to an end with an important safety demonstration of how not to use water to put out a chip pan fire.

The MAWW Fire and Rescue Community Safety Team showed the crowd that the result could be explosive.

“If you put water on an oil-based fire the water turns to steam and the fire spreads,” said Crew Manager Huw John.

“The children enjoyed themselves but there was an important fire safety message as well,” he added.

Milford Haven Fire Station would like to thank the local businesses who helped make the evening possible, including Lidl who gave food, Home Bargains who gave sweets, and the Torch Theatre who donated props and equipment for the haunted house.
