A MONTHLY coffee afternoon has clocked up the cash for a much-loved community centre.

Organised by Tesco Milford Haven, senior citizens enjoy a catch-up and a cuppa at Hubberston and Hakin Community Centre on the first Tuesday of every month.

On Tuesday, Tesco - which provides tea, coffee and cakes free of charge - handed over £186 to the hall.

The money was raised from £1 donations from each guest, over the course of eight afternoons.

Started in March 2017, the sessions were due to finish this year, but due to popular demand will now continue in 2018, with the first being on February 6.

"We've had such good feedback," said Debbie Mills, Tesco community champion.

"And it's great to be able to offer this monthly event, and support the community centre at the same time."

Money from this month's Christmas raffle will also go to Tesco's chosen charities, Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.

Mrs Hicks, from Hubberston, is one of the coffee afternoon regulars.

Her family were among those who originally raised money for the hall to be built, and she said it was important to support it wherever possible.

Pam McGillivray said the monthly afternoons were a great reason to get out of the house, catch up with friends, and meet her neighbours.

The hall, which is due to be officially taken over by the community in the new year, has benefitted from National Lottery funding through its Invest Local scheme.

A re-established luncheon club, historically one of the centre's most popular groups, is also picking up members at pace.
