A PLACE has become available on Milford Haven town council, after a member has stood down.

Byron Jenkins, who joined the council in April, had a business in the town centre, which was within his ward.

Mr Jenkins, who previously headed up the town's now defunct business circle, has now moved with his family to Derbyshire.

"It is with regret that I have decided to stand down as Milford Haven town councillor," Mr Jenkins said.

"I made a choice that was best for me and my family, and at this time that was to leave Pembrokeshire.

"I wish all Milford Haven Town Councillors well, and hope that they all carry on to do their best for Milford Haven."

Due to the Christmas holidays, a notice of the vacancy will not be issued until the new year.

After this time, local voters can call for an election should they wish.

Otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

The council comprises Cllr Alun Byrne (Hubberston ward), Cllr Terry Davies (west ward), Cllr William Elliott (Hakin ward), Cllr Rhys Evans (west ward), Cllr Kathy Gray (north ward), Cllr Rose Gray (Hubberston ward), Cllr Eric Harries (Hakin ward), Cllr Tony Miles (central ward), Cllr Tracy Olin (east ward), Clr Matthew Rickard (north ward), Cllr Colin Sharp (east ward), Cllr Rhys Sinnett (west ward), Cllr Yvonne Southwell (Hakin ward), Cllr Jon Thrower (Hubberston ward), Cllr Lynne Turner (central ward), Cllr Clare Williams (north ward) and Cllr Guy Woodham (east ward).

The town council is responsible for setting an annual council tax precept, which helps cover local certain local maintenance costs, as well as other costs.

It also gives money to local causes and organisations throughout the year, as well as supporting events such as Founders Day.

The town council next meets in January at the town hall.
