BURTON Women's Institute claimed victory at the annual Pembrokeshire Federation competition in Crundale last week.

The Rose Bowl and Brecon Cup competition was a chance for local groups to show off their flower arranging, craft and cooking talents.

The theme this year was 'summer glory', and was one of the busiest Rose Bowl competitions the federation has ever seen.

It was a close fought contest, with many breath taking entries from WI branches from across the county, but Burton proved to have the flower power, claiming first place in the Rose Bowl category.

Runners up were Croesgoch, Tavernspite, Wolfscastle and Boncath WIs.

The Floral Art Cup went to Boncath WI, and Eglwyswrw claimed first prize in the Brecon Cup.

Helen Collison from Burton WI was also awarded the public vote for the best craft item for her stunning hand-embroidered silk pebble.

Cups were presented by group chairman Jenny Longland, who said: β€œIt has been an amazing day, with so many marvellous entries.

"I have never seen such an amazing turnout.

"Thank you to all those that came along.”

The winners will go on to the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells in July, where they will be competing against all WI Federations from across Wales for the Welsh Rose Bowl Cup and Welsh Brecon Cup.
