A 24-year-old man has been jailed after spitting in the face of a police officer.

Shane William Goodridge, of Chestnut Way, Milford Haven, spat at a Dyfed-Powys Police officer on Wednesday (May 2).

Goodridge had been arrested on suspicion of a separate assault and was being placed in a cell at Haverfordwest when he spat at the PC, making contact with the side of his face.

The 24-year-old was arrested and charged with assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty, and conveyed to Llanelli Magistrates Court the following day.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison.

Pembrokeshire Superintendent Ian John said: “We are pleased with the sentence handed to Goodridge by the judge on Thursday.

“Assaults by spitting are clearly unpleasant, and can have distressing implications for officers.

“It is unacceptable for our officers to be assaulted while they are carrying out their duties, and we will do all we can to support them and bring the culprits to justice.”
