MEMBERS of Pembrokeshire disabled bowls have triumphed at a recent national special Olympics competition, with a haul of three medals.

The bowlers, Simon Eaton (silver), James Tyler (bronze), and Lee Bower (bronze), triumphed at the Special Olympics Wales Regional Bowls Triple Competition, held at Cardiff Indoor Bowls Stadium, Sophia Gar-dens on May 6.

The bowlers meet at Milford Haven’s Meads leisure centre.

Stephen Whitmore, of Pembrokeshire disabled bowls, said: “The achievement is monumental for our disabled bowlers; the bowlers themselves are absolutely over the moon. As the coaches we do our best to give the players a chance at competitions, and this has proved to us that we are steering them in the right way. It also shows how the club has flourished in the last four years; we never turn anybody away that has a disabil-ity, and it shows in the number of members we have now.

“Anybody is welcome to come along and see what, and how, we play on a Monday 2 ‘til 4.”

The club is now hoping to travel to the Plymouth Special Olympics in August, and is appealing for financial support.

The club is hoping to raise £1,000.

Stephen added: “As a disabled club we are trying to promote indoor bowls to enrich people’s lives that would normally have nothing else to do. Some players want to compete in competitions, so we would like to give them the chance; this is where the need for funds is valuable to us. Any person that would like to come along and see what we do will be made welcome.”
