A Milford Haven charity has officially opened the doors of a new branch in Haverfordwest as it celebrates its third birthday.

Volunteers and supporters of Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship (PATCH) gathered to mark the official opening of the Hill Street branch, along with MP Stephen Crabb.

The charity was originally founded by co-ordinator Tracy Olin, and based from the Cleddau Community Church in Milford Haven.

The charity supplies ‘basics banks’ of non-perishable food, clothing and toiletries, donated by churches, organisations and individuals, to people who are in emergency situations.

Ms Olin said: “The need for our services has grown over the years which led to the opening of our second branch in Monkton last September.

“I am very pleased that we are now able to have a base in Haverfordwest which will make it easier for people to reach us for the support that they need.”

She added: “I am very appreciative of the hard working volunteers at PATCH who help out every week and for the support that we have received locally from individuals and organisations such as South Hook LNG and Tesco who make our work possible.”

Mr Crabb said he was delighted to join the charity on such an important day in its history.

“PATCH works closely with Pembrokeshire agencies to ensure that help is available when it is needed the most by all members of the community. “They deliver a vital service to people who are facing short term financial hardship.”

“The opening of their new branch on Hill Street will allow their good work to expand and serve another area of our community,” he said.
