Four childhood friends of a Goodwick barrister who died unexpectedly last year have raised more than £1,600 for a charity close to his heart.

David Roscoe, David Havard, Oliver Davies and Ryan Leeke formed the G Team in memory of their school friend, 23-year-old Gianni Sonvico.

Newly qualified barrister, Gianni, went missing last October, his body was later found in the Thames.

An ardent Arsenal supporter described by his friends as "charismatic, determined and a really good friend" Gianni had often mentioned taking part in the Tough Mudder.

The 12 mile obstacle course traverses over rough and rigorous terrain and features steep climbs, mud pits, and is designed to test all-around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie.

The G team swung from roof beams, scrambled under metres of barbed wire, scaled sheer walls and ran through miles of mud. To date they have raised £1,666 for the Arsenal Foundation, a charity which motivates and inspires young people to reach their full potential.

"It was brilliant," said G Team member Ryan Leeke. "I absolutely loved it but it was a little bit sad at times;

"It was something we had spoken about doing with Gianni. We spent our childhood together, playing football, playing in the woods. The Tough Mudder was a bit like that again, it bought back memories from that time. It was a good opportunity to reminisce.

"We were talking about how much Gianni would have loved it. If he was there he would have been the pace setter at the front."

Cheering the G Team on every step of the way were Gianni's mother and sister, Karen Chandler and Maya Sonvico.

"It was really nice to have Karen and Maya there," said Ryan. "Every time we saw them there was a big cheer and scream. It gave us the drive to push on and was a reminder of why we were doing it."

Karen added :

"We watched, over four hours, as the guys pushed themselves harder than we could imagine, supported and encouraged each other through mud and ice, all the while thinking 'Gian would have loved this so much'.

"We are so proud, so chuffed at the amount they raised, and so very grateful."
