AN 'exemplary soldier' died when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a lorry, an inquest has heard.

The inquest into the death Brawdy-based Lance Corporal Jamie Stewart Fleming was held on Thursday, August 28.

LCpl Fleming was killed in a road traffic collision on the A487 Felindre Farchog to Cardigan Road on April 18 this year.

In his report, coroner's officer Jeremy Davies said the 21 year-old had lost control of his motorbike and collided with a goods lorry towing hay bales.

It was stressed that LCpl Fleming had not been riding too fast at the time of the incident.

LCpl Fleming, who was from Crediton in Devon, had been in the army for four-and-a-half years.

He had served in Afghanistan and served with the Royal Signals based at the Cawdor Barracks.

His family said: “Jamie was much loved by all his family and friends.

"He was very popular and enjoyed life to the full.

"Jamie was extremely fit, both for his work and during leisure time. He had recently run a marathon in Ireland.”

The cause of death was given as multiple trauma.

In attendance at the inquest at Milford Haven Town Hall were LCpl Fleming’s parents, brother and a family friend, along with army representatives Colonel Mark Purvis, Major Jayne Ellis and Sergeant Major Morrison.

Pembrokeshire Coroner Mark Layton said: “This was a young man with a promising career and whose family were obviously very proud of him.

“For reasons which are not entirely clear he lost control of his bike and came into collision with a lorry."

Recording a narrative verdict, Mr Layton concluded that LCpl Fleming had died as a result of a road traffic collision and extended his sympathies to the soldier’s family and friends.
