Calling sporty youngsters! There are fewer than 30 places remaining for Ironkids Wales which takes place in Tenby on Saturday September 13.

Entries are expected to close today (Thursday) for the fun 'run only' race, for three to 14-year-olds, which takes place the day before the famous Ironman Wales.

More than 720 places already been snapped up for Ironkids, which has a capacity of 750 places - double that of last year.

The organisers have changed the format of Ironkids from a splash/run on the beach to a run in Tenby, encouraging as many kids as possible to be part of this iconic Ironman weekend of racing.

There are three distances to run according to age, ranging from 500 metres to 1,500 metres, and all the fun takes place in the streets around the town centre with all participants crossing the finishing line in The Esplanade under the Ironman Wales and Ironkids finish arch.

The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying a healthy lifestyle that can be achieved by all ages. All participants will receive a souvenir t-shirt and race medal.

Said Kevin Stewart, managing director of Ironman Northern Europe: "Ironkids has grown into an amazing start to the Ironman Wales weekend. We are thrilled to see the event proving so popular this year, following the decision to move the event from the beach to the town to offer a run only race. This is a great fun event that encourages young people to get involved in sport and be part of a major sporting event. We look forward to welcoming them to Tenby and hope to see lots of spectators cheering them all the way to the finish line.”
