An incident on a train travelling out of Pembrokeshire on Monday evening led to the arrest by police of a 32-year-old man.

Police were called to Narberth railway station at 10.20pm following a report of an assault on a woman on board the train.

British Transport police dealt with the incident, assisted by officers from Dyfed-Powys police.

The man, from Port Talbot, was arrested at Narberth station, where the train was delayed while officers completed their task.

A spokesman for British Transport Police told the Western Telegraph: “We were called to Narberth railway station at 10.20pm on Monday September 8 after reports of an assault on board a train.

“Our officers attended, along with colleagues from Dyfed Powys police.

“A 32-year-old man from Port Talbot was arrested on suspicion of assault and a public order offence, and is currently in police custody.”

Arriva Trains Wales said: “We can confirm that the 9:09 pm Pembroke Dock to Llanelli service was held at Narbeth due to an incident on the train. The police were called and a member of the public was taken into custody. The incident caused minimum disruption to local services."

“Incidents like this are thankfully very rare and we continue to work with British Transport Police to ensure that our trains remain a safe place for our passengers.

“ A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “We were called at 10.32pm to a reported incident at Narberth station.

"One emergency ambulance attended, but we did not convey anybody to hospital because police were dealing with the incident.”
