POTENTIAL school closures are an option from a review of education provision around the Angle Peninsula and will be discussed at a public meeting next month.

Following a report on primary schools in the Pembroke family of schools area - which was considered by full Pembrokeshire County Council in July - preliminary consultation over the future of schools in the Angle area will now take place.

The council is considering three options:

*Retaining all four school sites - with Angle and Stackpole VC schools coming under one federated umbrella as will Orielton and Monkton Priory CP schools.

*Federating Angle and Stackpole VC schools and closing Orielton CP school with pupils transferring to Monkton Priory or Golden Grove Community School/Ysgol Gelli Aur.

*Closure of Angle, Stackpole and Orielton schools with a new school-either Community (CP) or Voluntary Controlled (VC) set up on one of the sites.

The public meeting will be held on Monday October 6 at Monkton Priory Church Hall, Church Terrace, Monkton between 6.30pm and 8pm.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Head of Education, Kate Evan- Hughes will make a presentation to the meeting after which there will be a question and answer session.

Places at the public meeting in Monkton are limited.

Please phone 01437 764551 to reserve a place.

Consultation documents and response forms will also be available from October 6th on the Pembrokeshire County Council website (www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/haveyoursay ).

The final date for responses to the consultation is Monday 10th November.

Following preliminary consultation, the council will decide on its preferred option, which will then go out for further statutory consultation.
