A DUAL carriageway into Pembrokeshire could be a step closer after the First Minister agreed to a plan in principle, according to a local Assembly Member.

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies raised the matter at a scrutiny session in Whitland and asked Carwyn Jones if he shared his ambition to turn the A40 into a dual carriageway.

Mr Jones agreed and said that the financial position needed to be further looked at to see whether it is possible Mr Davies said: “I’m pleased that the First Minister has finally confirmed in principle to dual the A40 in Pembrokeshire.

“This road would provide a huge number of economic benefits to businesses in the area, as it would provide job opportunities and go some way to attracting inward investment to the County.

“It would also help make travelling in Pembrokeshire much easier for residents and for the thousands of visitors that come to the area each year.

“Therefore, I’m delighted that the First Minister has finally agreed in principle to this necessary transport upgrade for west Wales, and I look forward to hear more about the financial position of dualling this road in the future.”
