A FUNDRAISING appeal to bring a sick Pembrokeshire man home from abroad has got off to a flying start.

Nathan Perrin, who lived in Narberth, fell ill in Thailand a few weeks ago, and was taken to a specialist hospital in Phuket.

While his family flew out to be with him, Nathan’s friends have been rallying around trying to raise enough money to fly him home, as the 21 year-old’s holiday insurance will not cover the costs of his medical treatment.

Nathan’s best friend David Burger said: “Nathan is doing a lot better. He was discharged from hospital last Thursday (October 16) and is spending a week recuperating before flying home on October 28.

“He has responded well to medication and has gone from be really bad to okay, but he still has a lot of recovering to do. He’ll have to take it easy when he comes home.”

So far the ‘Get Nathan Perrin Home’ appeal has raised an incredible £3,000, with donations still coming in, including the proceeds of Daniel Owen’s 50 mile sponsored walk around Pembrokeshire.

The appeal will be boosted by a fundraising gig being held in Laugharne Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 25, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £5 and the evening features five local bands which have all agreed to play free of charge.

A gig is also being held at Labyrinth Live Music & Sports Bar in Haverfordwest on Friday, October 24 at 8pm. Tickets cost £3, with six acts already confirmed.

“I’m really impressed how everyone has got behind the appeal,” added David.

“I knew that Nathan had great friends, but we’ve been getting donations from people who don’t even know him. After his story was on the news, one person in North Wales sent £200 to the appeal, which is amazing.

“I know his family who have been out in Thailand for the last three weeks are so grateful for everyone’s generosity.”
