The Green Party is to stage a protest this morning (Thursday) at County Hall in response to the settlement deal reached with the former chief executive of Pembrokeshire County Council.

Arranged for 10am, the party is hoping people will come to the Haverfordwest office to show their support for what they call “a day of action against greed and corruption in local government”.

Jim Scott, from the Pembrokeshire Green Party, said: “We have decided to organise this demonstration against the £280,000 payout, because this is at the very core of what the Green Party is about.

“The £280, 000 may only be a couple of years salary to Bryn Parry-Jones but to the rest of us who have paid this money in council tax, this money is no drop in the ocean, especially in these times of ideological austerity. ”

Cardiff Labour AM Jenny Rathbone raised the pay-off to Bryn Parry-Jones during a public accounts committee debate recently.

She said: “The pay-off for the former chief executive was an absolute disgrace. The fact that the council made this decision in private out of sight of public scrutiny just added salt to the wound. Such lack of transparency brings local government into disrepute.”
