Full planning permission for an 82 vehicle truck stop and associated facilities on the outskirts of Scleddau is being sought by investment company, Conygar PLC.

The 2.62 hectare development on pasture land west of Celtic Link Business Park will house bays for 82 HGVs, a 53 square metre toilet and shower block and a security control kiosk. It would employ one full time and one part time employee.

The application would see the truck stop operating 24 hours a day seven days a week for a temporary period of five years, with the land possibly being used for industrial use after that.

The truck stop, situated off the A4219 one kilometre from Scleddau and four kilometres from Fishguard Port, would "serve to augment existing marshalling facilities in Fishguard Port by providing safe and secure accommodation for vehicles and their drivers."

The development is 110 metres from the nearest house and 200 metres from Yet Y Gors campsite and fishery. Noise mitigation measures would be put in place, including acoustic fencing around some parts of the site. Other measures include night time spaces with detachable bollards to prevent reversing alarms and a ban on sounding horns.

Alterations would need to take place to the A4219 to accommodate the development, including local widening and implementation of a priority junction, as well as construction of an access road onto the site.

The site will be surrounded by 2.4m security fencing and CCTV and lighting installed.

A previous planning permission, issued in 2010 was granted for a smaller truck stop and industrial unit. However, the industrial unit, which was to be part-funded by the South West Wales Property Development Fund, no longer forms part of the application.

Natural Resources Wales has asked the council to defer giving permission until alternative arrangements for dealing with foul water have been submitted. The present plans include a cesspool and a package treatment plant which NRW says they will not support.

Members of the public have until October 22 to comment on the application.
