Pembrokeshire County Council's commitment to reducing domestic violence has been recognised by the White Ribbon Campaign, a pioneering campaign led by men working to end violence against women.

The county's first white ribbon ambassadors nailed their colours to the mast last week.

They include county councillors Simon Hancock and Rob Lewis, Rev Martin Spain, Chief Inspector Ross Evans from Dyfed Powys Police and PCC deputy chief executive Ben Pykett along with Dr Steven Jones, PCC director of development and chair of the community safety team.

The county council has been awarded the White Ribbon Campaign Town Award status, as part of the national and international campaign, a joint initiative of organisations and individuals all working to end violence against women.

"The campaign aims to contribute towards ending violence against women by engaging men and boys in taking action on the issue," said Cllr Hancock, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Well-being and Equalities.

"We do this by raising awareness, promoting discussion and providing information and resources to support personal and collective action among men."

Jenny Hart, domestic abuse coordinator for Pembrokeshire, said the campaign and its ambassadors could play a vital role in tackling the issue of violence against women and girls.

"Its uniqueness is that this is a campaign spearheaded by men themselves," she said.
